100x: The 2015 Edition - 001 - Waxing Gibbous Moon

Image
The first day of the new year in the Boston area was a sunny and cold one but those clear blue skies overhead meant that the moon's Waxing Gibbous phase was clearly visible. I immediately grabbed by P&S superzoom and took some shots but sadly they were very lacking detail and focus so I turned to my reliable Pentax K200d attaching my Sigma 70-300mm zoom and extending it fully to 300mm. Resting myself against a fence post the following was the result. Moon over Boston - 001 of 100.  Taken handheld resting against a fence post with my Pentax zoom lens fully extended to 300mm. Taken in the Boston suburbs at 4pm January 1st 2015, cropped in post. The original out of the camera image that I had taken before cropping unfortunately showed overhead cable and phone wires which were very distracting.

Photography Project - Super Moon

Image
The Super Moon was too much of a temptation not to try and capture it in motion. The attached image is 2 taken in quick succession with my Canon P&S and animated together to get this glimmering effect. I like this shot but wish I could have got a little more detail, should have tried with my DSLR; next time. Super Moon - Animated Gif 2 shots t aken with the  Canon PowerShot SX230HS , combined in post processing & saved as a GIF.

328/365 Photo Project - Moon Fail

Image
Moon Fail Early AM today the clear skies exposed a beautiful moon, so I grabbed my P&S Cam and snapped this shot. Needless to say that I was very dissappointed looking at the shot on my Laptop the next day, unfortunately I didn't take another picture to post so this is it! Taken with the  Canon PowerShot SX230HS  in landscape mode, flash did not fire.   No amount of post processing could save this one.

265/365 Photo Project - Moon Over Maine

Image
Moon Over Maine The moon was flying high over the old tin roof of this house in Maine on this chilly fall Friday eve. Taken with the  Canon PowerShot SX230HS  in landscape mode, no post processing.

127/365 Photo Project - Supermoon

Image
Supermoon My attempt at capturing the supermoon proved very tricky, having tried and failed using my Pentax DSLR and my favorite Sigma zoom lens I reverted back to my trust old Canon PowerShot SX230HS point and shoot. A full moon in an overcast sky is just too bright to be able to get any good detail in focus, and without any buildings for perspective it's hard to tell what's so super about this moon. Taken with the Canon PowerShot SX230HS in Shutter Priority mode at 1/2000, cropped in post processing.

11/365 Photo Project - The Moon, Medford MA

Image
The Moon, Medford MA at 7.19am Jan 11th 2012 This photo of the moon taken this morning during my commute to work. I have to reiterate what I have said in previous posts that although this was taken from my car at the time it was taken I was at a traffic light (a very long traffic light on rt16, if you are familiar with the area you know the one!) and the car at a complete stop. No steering with my knees here! So, disclaimer out the way I am finding that taking my camera with me everywhere certainly does lend itself well to finding opportune moments to capture a point in time that might otherwise have been missed (at least by me because my phone cam would not have been able to capture this result). Taken with the Canon PowerShot SX230HS at 7.19am in Landscape mode to maximize the area in-focus. I'm not sure how far the moon is off in the distance but I'd say the camera did a pretty good job in low light, hand held and without much time to focus before I headed off on the remain...
