365 Photo Project - Everything May

Image
Looking back over all the photographs taken this month as part of my 365 photo project I can see that a large potion of them are influenced by the fact that my wife and I were moving house, packing, unpacking, carrying junk and ah yes, eating out a lot ;)

152/365 Photo Project - Old Car Headlight

Image
Old Car Headlight Parked in the lot near where I work was this old Chevy truck was still going strong after all the years of hard labor I'm sure it's owner has put it through. I attempted a similar idea on my own automobile at the beginning of the year. Taken with the LG Optimus Elite, spot focus added effect added in post processing. Update 9/20: Adding a photo of the full frontal of the car for Timmy.

151/365 Photo Project - Black Rose

Image
Black Rose No I haven't created a new rose hybrid, this is actually just a B&W Conversion in post processing of another rose in our garden. Taken with the Canon PowerShot SX230HS in macro focusing mode, post processing as described above.

150/365 Photo Project - DIY Project

Image
DIY Project One of many DIY projects that are on my honey do list now that we own a new house was the painting of the wood shelving we have. This was actually more difficult to do than I thought, my tip for the day is to not spray paint indoors, even with the windows open it's no fun on your internal organs. Taken with the Canon PowerShot SX230HS in night time shooting mode, where the camera takes 3 consecutive shots quickly and combines them.

149/365 Photo Project - A Rose By Any Other Name

Image
A Rose By Any Other Name The late afternoon sun was striking the roses in our backyard in just the right way I couldn't resist choosing one of the pictures I took for today's post. The small specks of green on the rose are actually pollen of which there is a hell of a lot in the air lately, achoo! Taken with the Canon PowerShot SX230HS in macro focusing mode, no post processing other than cropping for square.

148/365 Photo Project - It's What's For Dinner

Image
It's What's For Dinner One of the (many) perks we are discovering living in a university town is the abundance of take out options there are out there. Today's pic is my chicken teriyaki burrito for Boloco , before I devoured it. Taken with the LG Optimus Elite, cropped for aspect in post processing.

147/365 Photo Project - Burger And Fries

Image
Burger And Fries Not exactly inspirational, but it's all I had time to take a photo of today during all of our unpacking. I can tell you these were very tasty though, although I can't wait to have a really BBQ grill again and be able to fry some of these bad boys up for real instead of in the frying pan. Taken with the Canon PowerShot SX230HS in macro focusing mode, no post processing other than cropping for square.

146/365 Photo Project - New View

Image
New View New home, new city, new view and hopefully a new (less stressed) outlook on life. Taken with the LG Optimus Elite with +2 EV, yes you can adjust exposure compensation on this camera phone, pretty amazing for such an inexpensive device.

145/365 Photo Project - Fire Hazard

Image
Fire Hazard New house, new surprises. Like an archeological expedition my wife found this block of lint in the dryer of our new home, I guess the previous owners had no concept of cleaning the trap in the 3 years they've owned the unit. Scary! Taken with the Canon PowerShot SX230HS with on camera flash.

144/365 Photo Project - Grocery Aisle

Image
Grocery Aisle Taken at my local grocery store during peak hours it was especially difficult to not capture any hungry shoppers. Taken with the Canon PowerShot SX230HS without on-camera flash.

143/365 Photo Project - Cornered

Image
Cornered I was almost cornered by the task of coming up with today's posting on my 365 photo blog when inspiration on this very rainy busy work day had me at loss. So this corner of our living room to the rescue. Taken with the Canon PowerShot SX230HS handheld in macro mode without on-camera flash.

142/365 Photo Project - Cat Napping

Image
Cat Napping Asta always finds the most inconvenient places to crawl up for some cat napping. Taken with the LG Optimus Elite tone correction in post processing necessary.

141/365 Photo Project - Portal To The Past

Image
Portal To The Past These exposed cobblestones in the pavement outside of a local area mall are a great portal to what once was. Unfortunately the harsh midday sun was a little too much for my camera phone to handle, I may need to return here when it's a little overcast and try again at some point. Taken with the LG Optimus Elite tone correction and blurring around edges added in post processing necessary.

140/365 Photo Project - Salsa Bar

Image
Salsa Bar Nothing beats a burrito, and the burritos at Picante in Central Sq. are extremely delicious, especially when taken to go and washed down with a nice cool beer. Taken with the LG Optimus Elite with no post processing necessary.

139/365 Photo Project - Water Fountain

Image
Water Fountain As I walked back from the mall I past this water fountain in Kendall Square. It had been turned off all winter but now the warmth has returned it's in full flow. Taken with the LG Optimus Elite with no post processing necessary. I really like the touch to focus feature of this phone, so far it's been a winner!

138/365 Photo Project - Window Framed

Image
Window Framed This is my first photo taken with my new LG Optimus Elite . With it's 5 megapixel cam it is a wrodl apart from the 1.3 megapixels of my old phone. I now have absolutely no excuse for being able to capture more opportunities that life presents. Taken with the LG Optimus Elite with no post processing necessary.

137/365 Photo Project - Pepper Shaker

Image
Pepper Shaker Dinner and a movie night, yay! Pizza and pasta from Cambridge 1 in Harvard Square was delicious before heading out to The Dictator, also just as delicious! This will be the last photo taken, ever, with my LG Rumor Touch camera phone no post processing. By tomorrow my new phone, the LG Optimus Elite should arrive, I look forward to testing it's 5MP camera for this blog!

136/365 Photo Project - Rotten Fruit

Image
Rotten Fruit It could be time to throw these lemons in the trash, what do you think? Taken with the Canon PowerShot SX230HS at 10X zoom, handheld in macro mode with on camera flash.

135/365 Photo Project - Stormy Monday

Image
Stormy Monday After such a nice weekend it seems apt that the rains returned just in time to make everyone in Boston's start of the work week feel a little worse. Taken with the iPod Touch phone , no post processing.

134/365 Photo Project - Wildlife Zoom

Image
Wildlife Zoom Continuing my efforts to stretch the limit of my Canon P&S zoom today's photo of the wildlife behind our apartment in Cambridge shows two Squirrels playing on a fence post. This is shot from the first floor apartment, through the windows with the camera zoom fully extended to it's max. As demonstrated yesterday and again here the impressive image stabilization of the SX230 makes for a very crisp shot. Taken with the Canon PowerShot SX230HS at 14X zoom, cropped for aspect and tone corrected in post processing.

133/365 Photo Project - Inflight Zoom

Image
Inflight Zoom I'm stretching the limits of my Canon P&S with today's photo of a American Airlines flight out of Boston's Logan Airport. This is shot from the ground in Medford, Ma which is apparently in Logan's flight path. Pretty impressive for a handheld P&S shooter don't you think? Taken with the Canon PowerShot SX230HS at 14X zoom cropped for aspect, no other post processing.

132/365 Photo Project - The Sun Returns

Image
The Sun Returns After a week of miserable weather in the Boston area the sun finally has returned just in time for the weekend! This is shot through the closet window in my rental apartment and shows the windows need cleaning. Taken with the Canon PowerShot SX230HS in landscape mode, no post processing.

131/365 Photo Project - Floor Plan

Image
Floor Plan The appraisal of what potentially could be our new home arrived in the mail today, the above is the floorplan. I don't know what my wife is going to do with only 1 small bathroom for the whole house. Perhaps the first major project is going to be finishing the basement, we'll have to wait and see. Taken with the Canon PowerShot SX230HS in macro mode, no post processing.

130/365 Photo Project - Boston Harbor Oil Slick

Image
Boston Harbor Oil Slick I noticed today on my walk to work that the water in the Boston Harbor was even more disgusting that usual. This oil slick may have all the colors of the 'rainbow' but you wouldnt get me kayaking anywhere near it. If only today was sunny this would have looked even worse! Taken with the Canon PowerShot SX230HS , levels adjusted in post processing.

129/365 Photo Project - Water Ripples

Image
Water Ripples This is my failed attempt at trying to capture a water droplet rippling in this glass, next time I'll try this with a DSLR instead of my advanced P&S cam. Taken with the Canon PowerShot SX230HS in macro mode , no post processing.

128/365 Photo Project - Gargoyle

Image
Gargoyle Just look up, the next time you are walking around your town or city look up and be sure to take note of the architecture that most folks walk past everyday and never give a first thought. Taken with the Canon PowerShot SX230HS in Landscape mode, cropped in post processing.

127/365 Photo Project - Supermoon

Image
Supermoon My attempt at capturing the supermoon proved very tricky, having tried and failed using my Pentax DSLR and my favorite Sigma zoom lens I reverted back to my trust old Canon PowerShot SX230HS point and shoot. A full moon in an overcast sky is just too bright to be able to get any good detail in focus, and without any buildings for perspective it's hard to tell what's so super about this moon. Taken with the Canon PowerShot SX230HS in Shutter Priority mode at 1/2000, cropped in post processing.

126/365 Photo Project - Abandoned Rail Tracks

Image
Abandoned Rail Tracks Found in the rather unexpected place of Arlington Center these tracks remain untouched despite the majority of the old rail tracks being converted in to bike pathways. No risk of being run over here unless you include the countless cyclists whom disregard the no riding on the pavement laws. I hate the composition in this one, but hey this was taken on my phone and I was in a hurry. Taken with the LG Rumor touch, no post processing.

125/365 Photo Project - Ivy On Office Building

Image
Ivy On Office Building It may be dull and grey outside but the colors of this ivy crawling up the side of this Boston area office building were popping in the lacking daylight. Taken with the Canon PowerShot SX230HS in landscape mode, cropped in post processing.

124/365 Photo Project - The Real Battleship

Image
The Real Battleship Rihanna and Liam Neeson may disagree but this will always be the real Battleship, sorry CGI ridden hollywood dross. I will probably still go see you ;) Taken with the Canon PowerShot SX230HS with on camera flash, tone corrected and squared in post processing.

123/365 Photo Project - Macaroon Macro

Image
Macaroon Macro I found a box of half eaten Macaroons on the kitchen shelf and I couldn't help myself, it just roles of the tongue right, macaroon macro, macaroon macro, macaroon macro, try saying that 3 times fast! A post-it note takes on the role of a a make-shift miniature muslin for this shot side lit by a table lamp. Taken with the Canon PowerShot SX230HS in macro mode, no post processing.

122/365 Photo Project - HTML Coding

Image
HTML Coding Despite all the progress of online WYSIWYG editors, development IDEs and the prevalence of blogs I still enjoy coding away in my favorite text editor Textpad . Taken with the Canon PowerShot SX230HS in macro mode, URLs obfuscated in post processing.
